A couple years ago I tried to use my Unifi security cameras to do automatic license plate reading. That effort had limited success, which was largely overshadowed by failures. The cameras can’t clearly capture license plate characters as they’re moving by.

I decided to build my own security camera using the Raspberry Pi global shutter camera. This camera can take clear photos and video of things in motion.

I’m cramming the Pi camera, a Raspberry Pi Pico and some form of power supply into the case from a dead game camera. Photo examples coming soon.
